Backgrounds are one of the key origins for your character and can add a lot of fun to the game. While many players craft their own backgrounds inspired by common archetypes from literature or history, we’ve provided a wealth of backgrounds to spark your imagination. Use them as starting points to create your own unique backstories or use them as is.
This book offers 96 background variants for the 16 backgrounds found in your 2024 5e book. Additionally, it introduces one new background along with six variants for that background. We’ve also included thoughtful enhancements to increase versatility for players and their characters. Before diving into the background variants, review the enhancements on the next page to see if they’ll fit your game. Know that these enhancements are avoiding creating overpowered or underpowered characters. It’s all about adding flavor and flexibility for players.
